At the heart of Hawthorn Education is our 1:1 teaching service.
We support children and young people who, for a wide range of reasons, are unable to access education successfully through a mainstream setting.
Some learners may have SEND or health needs. Others may be experiencing emotionally based school avoidance, have recently left a school placement, be awaiting a new placement or have become disengaged from education altogether.
Our starting point is always the individual young person.
We look at where they are academically, but also at the barriers that may be preventing them from learning. From there, we build an individual programme designed to help them engage, make progress and regain confidence.
Teaching can take place in Hawthorn Education hubs and other appropriate community settings, depending on the needs and circumstances of the learner.
The 1:1 model allows our teachers to adapt the pace, content and approach of each session. It also gives them the opportunity to build the strong professional relationship that is often essential when working with young people who have had difficult experiences of education.
Academic progress is important, but it is rarely the whole story. We also focus on attendance, engagement, confidence, independence and preparing young people for what comes next.
For many learners, Hawthorn is a bridge rather than a destination. Wherever appropriate, we work towards reintegration into school, progression to college or transition into another suitable educational placement.
Our goal is simple: to make education accessible again and give every young person we work with a realistic route forward.
